Building a Setlist That Keeps Everyone Dancing

River Cats performing to a dancing crowd at a live show in Eastern Ontario

People think a setlist is just a list of songs you like. It is not. A good setlist is a plan for the night, and the best ones stay flexible enough to change on the spot.

Read the Room First

Before we play a note, we are watching. A wedding crowd in their sixties wants something different than a Saturday bar full of twenty year olds, and a corporate holiday party wants both at once. We build a base setlist, then adjust as the night tells us what it wants.

Range Beats Loudness

Playing one genre all night is the fastest way to lose half the room. We keep rock, funk, country, and pop in the same set on purpose, so there is always something that pulls the next group onto the floor. That variety is the whole reason a live band works better than a playlist.

Save Something for Late

You never dump all your biggest songs early. The back third of the night is where a room either goes home or stays for one more, so we hold a few sure things for exactly that moment.

If you are planning a wedding in Eastern Ontario or any event with a dance floor, the setlist is worth a real conversation. Reach out and we will build one around your crowd.

Rock On!
