People see the show. They do not see the three hours before it, which is mostly cables, stairs, and someone asking where the other end of the extension cord went.
Every gig starts with load in. Amps, drums, a PA, monitors, lights, and a truly unreasonable number of cables all have to come out of the van and up whatever set of stairs the venue forgot to mention. This is the workout part of being a musician that nobody warns you about.
Then comes sound check, which is equal parts science and diplomacy. Getting a room to sound good means balancing the band against the space, and every room fights back differently. A low ceiling, a concrete floor, a weird corner, they all change the plan.
None of this is glamorous, and that is kind of the point. The bands worth hiring are the ones who treat the boring parts as seriously as the fun ones, because that is what makes the actual show feel effortless. It is the same care we bring to a corporate event where the setup has to be smooth and out of the way.
So next time you see a band walk on and make it look easy, know that the easy part came from doing the hard part right. If you want that kind of night at your event, let us know.
