Kingston does not always get talked about as a live music town, but spend a year playing here and you learn how wrong that is. For a city this size, the number of rooms that book bands regularly is genuinely impressive.
The scene has a personality. Downtown crowds near the water come out ready to move. The university district keeps things loud and late. Summer opens up the patios and the waterfront, and suddenly you are playing to people who wandered over because they heard something good.
What surprised us most is how much the venues support local acts. The rooms we list in our guide to Kingston venues actually want bands to succeed, and that makes the whole scene stronger.
Playing your own city has a different feel than playing out of town. Half the room might be people you know, which keeps you honest and makes a good night feel like a hometown win.
If you are looking for a live band in Kingston for your own event, or you just want to catch us out, our show list is the place to start.
See you out there.
